Sarawak’s Oldest Natural Sanctuary

Established in 1957, Bako National Park is Sarawak’s oldest national park. Occupying the rugged Muara Tebas peninsula at the mouth of the Bako and Kuching rivers, this coastal jewel packs almost every ecosystem found in Borneo into a compact 27 square kilometers: coastal cliff vegetation, mangrove forests, dipterocarp jungles, and open heath (kerangas).

Wildlife & Trail Highlights

• Proboscis Monkeys: Famous home to approximately 275 rare, long-nosed proboscis monkeys foraging in the mangrove canopy.
• Sea Stacks Rock Formations: Dramatic sandstone rock pillars sculpted by waves over millions of years along Telok Pandan Kecil beach.
• Rich Bornean Wildlife: Easily spot Bornean bearded pigs, silvered langurs, flying lemurs, monitor lizards, and over 150 species of birds.
• 16 Color-Coded Hiking Trails: Ranging from easy coastal boardwalks to rigorous full-day jungle treks leading to secluded sandy bays.
