Where Modern Miri Began

Perched high atop Canada Hill (Bukit Telaga Minyak), The Grand Old Lady is the affectionate name given to Miri Well No. 1—Malaysia’s first oil well struck by Shell in 1910. Beside the restored 30-meter steel derrick stands the modern Petroleum Museum, offering interactive science exhibits and sweeping sunset views over Miri City and the offshore rigs.
