Our Vision

BIMP-EAGA Vision 2035 articulates the shared aspiration to accelerate the subregion’s development as a unified, competitive, inclusive, and climate-resilient growth area. Under this 10-year strategic roadmap, BIMP-EAGA aims to expand its contribution to the ASEAN economy to at least 12%—targeting an annual $720 billion output—while unlocking its full potential, reducing poverty, and elevating the quality of life across the subregion.

This vision is built on four core strategic outcomes that guide all future cooperation activities and initiatives:

Strategic Pillars

1. Climate-Smart Agro-Industry and Fisheries Pillar

   Strengthening food security and building climate resilience by transitioning traditional farming and fishing into modern, sustainable agro-industries. This outcome emphasizes regenerative practices, technology integration, sustainable marine resource management, and higher value-added processing to position the subregion as a major, climate-resilient food production hub.

2. Seamless Travel and Sustainable Tourism Pillar

   Positioning the subregion as an interconnected, world-class eco-tourism destination while balancing economic growth with community stewardship. Focus areas include expanding air, sea, and land connectivity, streamlining cross-border travel, and promoting eco-tourism products that protect ancient rainforests, coral reefs, and local cultural heritage.

3. Network of Production Hubs and Value Chains Pillar

   Developing integrated economic corridors to enhance regional competitiveness, attract foreign investment, and strengthen trade networks. By linking local production centers directly to regional and global supply chains, this pillar aims to empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and foster industrial integration across borders.

4. Agile and Future-Ready Workforce Pillar

   Equipping the local workforce with skills tailored for the emerging digital, green, and blue economies. This pillar prioritizes human capital development, vocational upskilling, and cross-border educational exchanges to ensure communities adapt seamlessly to technological advancements and sustainable economic shifts.

Key Focus Areas and Strategic Targets

• Reconfigured Economic Corridors: Infrastructure development focuses heavily on expanding priority economic corridors to link remote production sites with main supply routes, spreading economic growth to marginalized and border communities.

• Digital, Green, and Blue Integration: Mainstreaming digitalization across border processes, advancing circular economic models, and harnessing the sustainable potential of ocean resources (the blue economy) drive subregional policy.

• Targeted Growth Metrics: BIMP-EAGA Vision 2035 sets ambitious benchmarks over the decade, including raising subregional GDP per capita by more than 40% (to $7,650) and expanding cross-border trade in goods beyond $1.1 trillion.

• Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs): Accelerating the delivery of major connectivity, energy, and digital infrastructure through expanded collaboration with the private sector and international development partners.
